PhD Dissertation: Developing a Genomic Framework for Studying Agronomic and Nutritional Traits in Pineapple

How are you planning to use your degree?

I would like to continue working on innovative agricultural genomic research that will one day allow me to move up to director-level position of a core lab on a university campus or within an industry setting. I also hope to continue improving my knowledge and skills in bioinformatics. I hope that one day, I will be able to merge my interest in effective, compassionate management and my love for science.

Whom do you want to thank?

I would like to express my deepest appreciation for my PhD advisor, Dr. Massimo Iorizzo, as well as my committee members and lab members for being such a valuable resource during my academic career. I will always remember the helpful advice and close relationships with my advisors and colleagues.

I want to thank all of my friends that I have made before and during grad school, as well my amazing boyfriend, William Smith, which I met my first semester of grad school. My friends have been so supportive and loving during a time when I very much needed it.

I would also like to thank my family members both living and passed. My sister has been my best friend for life and my grandparents made my education possible.

Finally, I would like to thank all of the other people (administrators, building managers, janitorial staff, etc.) that make it possible for people to go to grad school. It really takes a village.

What is the best thing about studying horticulture at NC State?

All the different people and types of research are in one department.
