How are you planning to use your degree?
I am planning to use my degree to work as a horticulturist in a public garden to facilitate the interaction between plants and people. I hope to inspire and encourage the public as they develop their own gardens.
Whom do you want to thank?
I would like to thank all the faculty and staff that I interacted with in the horticulture department. I want to thank Diane Mays for allowing me to assist her in the conservatory and the many lessons she taught me along the way. I want to thank Brian Jackson for the incredible passion that he brings to the classroom and for the practical ways he advised and encouraged me. I want to thank Helen Kraus for being a patient, thoughtful, and thorough teacher and for believing in me early in my college career. I want to thank the staff at the JC Raulston Arboretum for curating and maintaining a world-class collection of plants and actively promoting education.
What is the best thing about studying horticulture at NC State?
The abundance of resources and opportunities that are offered to students through the department kept me busy learning for all four years. From the variety of courses and experiences available to exploring the arboretum as the seasons change, I learned so much.

Evan, congratulations! I am glad we have gotten to know each other over the last few years. You have seen some amazing landscapes all over the US and have had first-hand experience with their management. Combined with your extensive plant knowledge – you are going to go far! Can’t wait to see your next adventure.
