Advisor Comments (Mark Hoffmann):
As top-level graduate from China Agriculture University in Bejing, Xioanan Shi arrived in August 2018 at NC State to pursue a MS degree in Horticulture in our program. Growing up at her grandparents’ farm in the province of Shangdong, China, she knew very early on that horticulture was the field she wanted to study. She has shown an exemplary work attitude, incredible discipline, and extraordinary communication skills. I got to know Xiaonan as an intelligent and highly devoted individual, with a high-level compassion and empathy, a clear passion for horticulture and agriculture, and highly developed critical thinking capacities. She has enjoyed interacting with farmers across the state, has grown as the social cornerstone in our group and has set the standard for every Master Student to follow.
I am very proud to be part of her path, and I am sure she will be an extraordinary PhD Student in Dr. Hernandez’ group.
