What was your degree(s) or focus?

My research and subsequent dissertation, titled “Genome-wide association mapping of fruit quality-related traits in a diversity panel of blueberries”, focused on a hybridized diversity panel of inter- and intraspecific blueberry genotypes wherein I examined a multitude of phenotypes to identify genetic markers associated with essential grower and consumer-driven characteristics.

How are you planning to use your degree?

I was employed at Pairwise Plant Sciences in July of 2021 as a Trait Testing Scientist working in the berry space. I have since taken the lead on the collaborative black raspberry breeding program, directing crosses for marker discovery and increasing genetic variability in the population all while directing whole population improvement for large, delicious black raspberry varieties.

Whom do you want to thank?

I want to thank my parents, Jo and Alan Redpath, as well as my fiance Tom Babb, all of whom gave me the entirety of support throughout my program, ensuring that I ate, and slept, and took breaks. I want to thank my brothers, Chris and Jeff, who ensured my break times did not require strenuous mental fortitude. Additionally, I thank my friends and their commiseration and emotional support on this journey. And finally, and perhaps unconventionally, my dogs, Mae and Kuma, have been a devoted and unconditionally loving source of emotional, mental, and physical support from ensuring I take breaks to exercise to comedic entertainment.
