Spring 2020

Degree: Bachelor of Science

Minor: Landscape Architecture

Graduation Honors: Cum Laude

How are you planning to use your degree?

With my Horticulture degree, I hope to be able to ultimately work in the field of Landscape Architecture. This degree has provided me with a great starting point with knowledge of plants and design techniques and principles to apply to both Landscape Design and Architecture. With this knowledge, I want to design spaces that can bring people together, provide a sense of peace, and blend nature into the ever-growing urban environment. Nature is a place of safety, beauty, and refuge which is continually growing obsolete. By blending natural and urban areas together, I hope to instill a desire for people to protect the few places left in the world that are left untouched from the urban environment.

Whom do you want to thank?

I would like to thank my parents, brother, and grandparents. They have supported me and helped me through every twist and turn that I have faced throughout my college career.

Advisor Comments (Anne Spafford):

The first time I met Jared he was still a high school student. He was on campus participating in the Horticultural Science Summer Institute. He was so excited that summer and that excitement has not diminished these four years. He has proven to be an exceptional designer and a fabulous artist, even having some of his drawings published in a textbook. I look forward to hearing about what he does next. Congratulations, Jared!
