Advisor Comments (Julie Sherk)

Lian is an exemplary student.  She is always eager to learn during class, and often stays after class to complete and polish her assignments.  I often find her in the studio after hours working on her homework assignments.  She is a talented designer and a clear communicator, and has a strong focus on her work.  When we are doing our hand’s-on projects in the field, she leads by example and is the first to jump in.  She is always busy doing whatever needs doing without having to have anyone ask her. The way she takes initiative shows her enthusiasm and passion for landscape design.

While Lian’s personality is reserved, she is highly engaged with faculty and other students and is fun to get along with.  She exhibits professionalism in everything she does. She is a respectful student who is open and works well with peers.  She is self-driven, a good time manager, and critical thinker; everything you would hope for in a student (human being).  It is no wonder she is so academically successful with a 4.0 overall average.

In one of her projects, she coined the term “Think and Dig”, which we adopted for the design and construction of the Kilgore Hall pollinator and raingardens!  I will miss Lian’s quiet, clever, focused and dedicated approach to learning and doing. I know she will be a great success in her future career!
