Marlee Trandel

Spring 2020 (Ph.D.)

Degree: Doctorate

Dissertation Title: Cell Wall Polysaccharides in Grafted and Non-grafted ‘Liberty’ Watermelon with Hollow Heart

Advisor Comments (Penelope Perkins-Veazie):

Welp. Marlee brought a wealth of unusual words with her to North Carolina. I promised her that some of these would come up again at her graduation. Marlee has been a fun and rewarding graduate student, dedicated to her work, superbly organized, with a great sense of humor, and never needing to be told to speak up. She has done an outstanding job on a very demanding and complex dissertation topic and has bridged horticulture and food chemistry in a very novel way. Marlee’s positive attitude in the face of the many redirections and challenges of life has touched many around her. Marlee will be an inspiration to others in whatever career path she takes.
