Stephanie Peterson

Spring 2020

Degree: Bachelor of Science

Concentration: Production Systems and Entrepreneurship

Graduation Honors: Cum Laude

How are you planning to use your degree?

Planning to use my degree to further my education in pursuing an MA in Counseling. I hope to integrate my Horticulture degree with counseling by pursuing horticultural therapy certification.

List clubs and activities while in school.

  • IJM at NC State
  • Power Sound of the South

Whom do you want to thank?

My family for their support; Lee Ivy for first getting me interested in horticulture; Gina Riccobonno for advising me my first year and offering tremendous support when I didn’t know which direction to turn; the faculty and staff of the horticulture department that invested countless hours into my education; Helen Kraus for answering countless emails and always having her door open for conversations about my education, career path, and everything else

What is the best thing about studying horticulture at NC State?

The people. It’s one of the main reasons I chose it as my major and I don’t regret that decision.

Advisor Comments (Bill Fontento):

Stephanie was a wonderful student- dedicated, smart and caring. Early on she wanted to use horticulture to help people in need. Unfortunately, we did not have a horticultural therapy degree here at NCSU. Undaunted, she has finished her horticultural science degree and in pursuing a Masters degree in Counseling. She will absolutely be successful in putting together her own hort therapy degree. We wish her the best.
