BA in Horticulture with a focus in Production Systems and Entrepreneurship
How are you planning to use your degree?
I plan to use my degree to educate and encourage the people around me. I want people to get back in touch with the earth and to challenge the way our system is currently operating.
Whom do you want to thank?
I want to thank all the people and organizations who supported me financially. I want to thank my partner for cooking delicious meals and supporting me emotionally. And lastly, the amazing Hort. staff truly made me feel at home and encouraged me to learn.
What is the best thing about studying horticulture at NC State?
I’ve gained a much deeper relationship with the natural world, which I now understand on a scientific and artistic level. Also, the staff is truly amazing. I can’t imagine a more down-to-earth and passionate group of people.

Do you have plans for after graduation? Are you currently working?
For the summer I will assist with research under the Alternative Crops Extension Specialist, David Suchoff. From there, the sky is the limit! I hope to buy a sizeable piece of land and take steps toward a sustainable permaculture system.

Sam transferred into NC State, focused and ready to get to work. And work she did – in her classes and in her job! She loves all things plants and plant related. Her plans are still coming into focus, but they are bright and will be full of good times.
