How are you planning to use your degree?

  • The Oaks Leadership Scholars
  • Pi Alpha Xi
  • Homewood Nursery – Production

Whom do you want to thank?

I want to thank my parents who have been my number one supporters since day one (love you so much)! Also, I would like to thank the folks at Homewood Nursery who helped grow my love and knowledge of growing plants. I would also like to thank Helen Kraus, my adviser, who guided and supported me through my academic journey. Finally, I want to thank Dr. Bruce and Dr. McKee for encouraging to me to push the envelope on what it means to be a leader in agriculture and advocacy.

What is the best thing about studying horticulture at NC State?

Our department is absolutely incredible! I truly believe that there is something to learn from everyone, and this rings true in our small part of campus. I have enjoyed meeting and getting to know my fellow students and professors in the department. I wouldn’t change this community for anything!

Through the Oak Leadership Scholars program, Staci has grown into a quiet force to be reckoned with. She has a beautiful way of working with people to bring them together and unite them. Equally passionate about plants and people, Staci will be continuing her education pursuing a Bachelors of Science in Sociology at NC State.

Congratulations Staci! I am so glad to have you as a friend and colleague. It was always a joy to see you around Kilgore, hang out on the weekends, and get through entomology together. I wish you success in all your future endeavors.

Staci, you have always had the greenest thumb and biggest heart for caring for all of the plants and people that the world has to offer. I remember in high school, you talking about succulents with so much love and excitement in your voice. It’s so wonderful to see you take that love and apply it through your degree with the same care and compassion that you did all of those years ago. I know your journey at NC State isn’t over yet, and I can’t wait to see all of the wonderful things that you have yet to accomplish. You are so smart, talented and kind, the world can only become a better place with you in it. Congratulations!
